MONROE, CT — Six people were hurt in a serious multi-vehicle crash Monday evening, fire officials said.
The three-vehicle accident happened around 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Route 110 and Wheeler Road, according to the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department No.1 Inc.
Six individuals were transported to the hospital due to their injuries, fire officials said.
Police Lt. Kevin McKellick said the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
The police investigation into the crash is ongoing.
According to McKellick, a preliminary investigation determined a vehicle traveling north on Wheeler Road failed to stop for the stop sign when entering the intersection and was struck by a vehicle traveling on Route 110. A second vehicle was then struck while on Route 110.
Police said there were three drivers and three passengers involved in the crash.
The accident caused the closure of Route 110 for several hours Monday.
Fire officials said bystanders stopped to help the victims in the rain. Police, fire and ambulance personnel responded to the scene, and out of town mutual aid paramedics and ambulances also provided assistance, officials said.
