Monitoring wells and a treatment system are now in place, and road repairs will follow once backfilling is complete. Drivers are urged to slow down and obey temporary traffic controls around the busy work zone.
• Monroe's public schools open with enthusiasm, smiles, optimism (themonroesun.com) — Monroe students returned to school with early dismissals, new communication tools, and a few policy tweaks, including tighter cellphone rules at Masuk High. Principals at Monroe's elementary and middle schools highlighted festive welcomes, playground improvements, new staff, and bus reroutes around the Hattertown Road closure as they kicked off the 2026-27 year with a focus on community and fresh starts.
• Eagle project at Harmony Grange in Monroe to grow fresh vegetables for local food pantries (themonroesun.com) — Scouts from Monroe Troops 62 and 26 are building a new vegetable garden at Harmony Grange that will supply fresh produce to food pantries in Monroe and nearby towns. Led by Eagle Scout candidate Elliot Harris, the project has drawn support from local businesses, town officials, and restaurants, and still needs donations of funds and perennials to finish the garden.
