Aspetuck Land Trust Acquires Former Boy Scouts Property In Monroe

The non-profit land conservation organization ​has preserved over 2,000 acres of land with 45 nature preserves since 1966.

MONROE, CT — Aspetuck Land Trust has acquired a 7.8-acre property previously owned by the Boy Scouts of America in Monroe.

The property is connected to other undeveloped open spaces and is rich with natural resources including glacial features, a pond, streams, and wetlands, according to a news release from ALT.

ALT merged with the Monroe Land Trust, adding Monroe to its regional territory, in July 2021.

"I'm thrilled that a year after the Monroe Land Trust merger, ALT has already shown their commitment to Monroe by purchasing a beautiful property from the CT Yankee Council, BSA. This property combined with surrounding Aquarion and Monroe open space lands protects about 120 acres of wildlife habitat," said ALT's new Monroe board member, Barbara Thomas.

"Monroe is a natural extension of our mission and programs and this merger enables us to protect more of the open spaces in our region that are so important to us and future generations," said Aspetuck Land Trust president Bill Kraekel.
