Boys Wage a Lemonade War
No casualties during a battle outside Edith Wheeler Memorial Library.
Lemons were viciously squeezed, sugar mixed and water spilled in the Lemonade War, where revenge was best served cold and by the cup.
Two teams of boys set up shop outside Edith Wheeler Memorial Library on Friday and battled from 1 to 4 p.m. to see which lemonade stand could rake in the most cash.
Kyle Konkol had read Jacqueline Davies book, The Lemonade War, in Fawn Hollow teacher Barbara Ballantyne's reading club and become inspired.

It was a story about a brother and a sister who had a contest over who could sell the most lemonade. The winner took the profits from both stands.
The boy wanted to buy an iPod and his sister wanted to give the money to charity.

Konkol shared the book with five friends and Ballantyne's students decided to wage a lemonade war of their own.
Kyle was joined by Sam Forsythe and Ian McClusky. The trio set up shop behind the library and offered lemonade with fresh, squeezed lemons and a free chocolate chip cookie with every purchase.
If they won, all proceeds would benefit the Monroe Food Pantry.
In front of the library, Harrison Loescher, Nolan Tornay and Ryan Shaw posed some friendly competition. They were assisted by The Lemon Heads, Ava Tornay, 5, and Justin Loescher, 6, who wore yellow hats with green leaves.
Justin used a paper towel roll to amplify his plea for library patrons to get their ice cold cups of lemonade.
These boys planned to use all proceeds for the restoration of P.T. Barnum Museum, which suffered tornado damage.
It was a close fight, but in the end, Kyle Konkol's team won $280 to $224.
