Coronavirus Monroe: Town Announces First Death

Monroe has unfortunately joined other nearby towns in having a resident die from the coronavirus.

MONROE, CT — First Selectman Ken Kellogg announced the first coronavirus-related death of a town resident Saturday morning.

"It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of a Monroe resident, a man in his 70's, from COVID-19," Kellogg said. "We extend our deepest condolences to his family. It is heartbreaking that we have joined our neighboring towns in experiencing the loss of a resident from this disease. We must continue to work together to slow its progression."

Monroe has 34 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus cases as of Friday. Connecticut has 10,538 confirmed cases, 448 deaths and 1,562 hospitalizations. More than 36,000 people have been tested.
