MONROE, CT — The new coronavirus continues to disrupt life in Monroe, the state and world.
Monroe has 23 laboratory confirmed coronavirus cases. Connecticut has 8,781 confirmed cases, 335 deaths and 1,418 total hospitalizations. A total of 31,700 resident tests have been reported

The town has put together a list of organizations that are accepting monetary donations to help in the fight against coronavirus.

First Selectman Ken Kellogg has suspended the biennial filing requirement for people already receiving tax relief under the town’s elderly or disabled tax relief programs.
“As you have probably heard, public health experts from the State of Connecticut currently predict that the total number of cases in Fairfield County will continue to rise, and will peak in 2-3 weeks,” Kellogg said in a letter to residents. “What’s important to remember is that we can still make a difference in the outcome. As we all prepare for yet another week of social distancing, I want to emphasize just how important this is for all of us. The actions we take now, as individuals, impact our entire community. Thank you for doing your part.”
Several town departments and facilities are now working remotely. The Gardner Road Landfill is open, but is only accepting leaves/grass, scrap metal and electronic recycling.
Town parks are open, but parking at Wolfe Park and Great Hollow Lake is for town residents and taxpayers only. Vehicles must have the blue valid park sticker issued last spring, or show identification with a Monroe address
Monroe's faith-based organizations are ringing their bells every night between 8 and 8:02 p.m. as a reminder that the community can remain united despite physical separation. Residents are encouraged to ring their own bells as well.
Monroe Schools
Schools will be closed through at least April 20 per Gov. Ned Lamont's executive order. The town has compiled a list of FAQs for distancing learning.
The district is offering free lunch for any child 18-years-old or younger who lives in Monroe. Bagged lunch pickup is available Monday through Friday at Jockey Hollow Middle School. Those who want a lunch must sign-up.
Monroe Businesses
Several restaurants are still offering takeout or delivery service. The town has compiled a list. Patch is also compiling a list of all businesses that are opened or closed in town. Business owners can fill out this form to be included.
