End Of Watch: Monroe K-9 Officer Dies, In Retirement

MONROE, CT — Retired Monroe K-9 Officer Murphy died Wednesday, the Monroe PD said in a statement on social media.

Murphy's handler, Sgt. John McAulay, was by his side.

K-9 Murphy served the Monroe Police Department from Feb. 9, 2015 until his retirement on Oct. 27 last year. During his career, K-9 Murphy recovered narcotics, apprehended felons, reunited lost loved ones and won many awards for excellence, according to police.

"Perhaps K9 Murphy's greatest contribution to the community were the countless demonstrations he and Sergeant McAulay did for children and seniors, and he was always the biggest hit at our annual Monroe Night at the Park," the PD said.
