Family-Style Hike Celebrates Trails Day in Monroe
The trek will be led by Monroe's park ranger.
MONROE, CT — A family-style outing led by Monroe’s park ranger David Solek over a mile-long route on the Yellow Loop Tail at Webb Mountain Park, Saturday, June 1 marks National Trails Day across the U.S.
The nature walk—starting at 10 a.m.-- is open to the public and co-sponsored by Monroe’s Health Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Conservation and Water Resources Commission and Land Trust and Tree Conservancy.
Participants are asked to assemble at 9:45 a.m. at the main gravel parking lot by the new map kiosk and hand-pump well. They should be outfitted with comfortable shoes, insect repellent, sunscreen and head covering.

Tick removal kits are being made available by the health department as supplies last.
Solek, also Monroe’s tree warden, provides commentary over a route described as moderately demanding with some hills.

"With the exception of severe storms," he says, "we’ll go rain or shine."
Dogs on leash are permitted with owners responsible for cleanup.
Connecticut ranks first in the U.S. for participation in Trails Day. There are more than 240 activities planned in the state’s 169 municipalities, reports the Connecticut Forest and Parks Association.
