MONROE, CT — Four bobcat sightings were reported in Monroe recently.
The sightings were reported Sept. 8-10 on Captains Hill Road, Hattertown Road, Braeloch Way and Old Coach Road, according to the Monroe Sun.
Bobcats are the only wildcats found in Connecticut and are the most common wildcat in North America, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Their numbers appear to have increased in recent years.

Bobcats have a signature "bobbed" tail that is about six-inches-long. Males tend to be between 18 and 35 pounds with a length of 32 to 37 inches while females are typically between 15 and 30 pounds and 28 to 32 inches. They are mostly active after duck and before dawn.
Attacks on humans are very rare, but they can kill livestock and sometimes get into fights with their domestic cat distant cousins.
