'A Great Kid With Good Energy:' Monroe Star Student
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in Monroe.

MONROE, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Donna Canchola who nominated 7th grader, Michael, of Monroe.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
He is a straight A student who is enrolled in STEM classes at Masuk High School. His teachers have expressed that Michael looks around the cafeteria at lunchtime and sits with any student who is alone. His teachers have said how helpful he is and always polite and kind. He gets along with everyone in class and is always participating in class discussions.
He currently plays hockey for the Southern CT Stars out of Milford, CT. He is the center on the PeeWee A1 team. This is his third season of travel hockey and 6th year overall. Michael has taken to the ice like a natural and really gives it his all. This is his second year of travel hockey earning over 100 points on the season; something that is not very easy to do. He has worked very hard on being a leader and setting a good example for his teammates. His coaches always say how receptive he is to instruction and that he is a great kid with good energy.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
My nominee shows leadership, good grades, kindness, listening skills, intelligence, and sportsmanship, all great qualities in a star student nominee.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Michael!
