New Monroe-Area Group Looks to Build on Momentum of Women's March

The Hear Our Voice CT Group looks to gather like-minded people to implement the 10 Actions in 100 Days Campaign.

MONROE, CT — On the heels of the Jan. 21 Women's March, a group has formed in the Monroe area with hopes to build on the momentum started by the march.

In a press release Monday, the Hear Our Voice CT Group announced that a group of men and women in the Monroe area have joined together "in supporting the advocacy and resistance movements necessary to protect those whose rights are being threatened." The group announced that it has accepted the challenge of implementing the 10 Actions in 100 Days campaign.

"The messages of bigotry, xenophobia, racism and misogyny of the past year and a half have caused much pain and fear and have divided our nation," the press release read. "We work together to support efforts that include protecting immigrants of all statuses, providing healthcare for all, safeguarding the future of our planet, preserving sexual and reproductive rights, furthering racial and gender equality, defending freedom of religion, safeguarding freedom of expression and ensuring that our elected officials represent our values."

According to the Women's March website, over 5 million supporters marched in Washington, D.C. and in sister marches across the country. Marches in Connecticut garnered support statewide, including Gov. Daniel Malloy addressing over 10,000 marchers in Hartford and a gathering of thousands in Stamford.

The organizers have challenged supporters to take part in actions every 10 days. As of Feb. 2, there are two actions detailed on the Women's March website; which include writing postcards to Senators and forming groups locally to "define" the next steps.
