Newtown Bridge Club will host workshops in modern bridge basics on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Station, 34 Hawleyville Road (Route 25), Newtown CT, beginning October 14, 2014.

Initial workshops present: Opening the Bidding (Oct 14), Major Suit Fits (Oct 28) and 1 Notrump Bids and Basic Responses (Nov 4). Five more workshops are scheduled through December.

“Bridge experts agree that bidding is the most important aspect of the game,” said club manager Susan Fronapfel who will present the Easybridge! workshops. “If you and your partner consistently bid to the right contract, you have a significant competitive edge. The key to modern bidding basics is a simple system with understandable bids.”

Players are welcome to come to workshops alone or with their bridge partners. Each workshop consists of a brief lesson followed by play and discussion of hands related to the session’s topic. The material is appropriate for social and duplicate bridge players; cost is $10 per session.
