K-9 Flags Down Monroe Car Burglary Suspect
Police received various reports of a suspicious person attempting to enter vehicles at a Monroe condo complex.

A Monroe man was arrested today after police say they received reports from residents of Hidden Knolls Condo Complex around 12:30 a.m. of a suspicious person attempting to enter vehicles.
According to police, an officer observed a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. When the officer approached the male, later identified as Amarez Coleman, 21, he ran into the woods behind the complex.

Responding officers engaged in a foot pursuit with Coleman through the woods where they lost sight of him behind houses on Lanthorne Drive, police said. Officers set up a perimeter around the area and requested the assistance of the Milford Police Department’s K9 Unit as the Monroe K-9 was off-duty.
According to police, Milford Police K9 Diesel and his handler located Coleman hiding in brush and thickets behind a Lanthorne Drive home. Coleman refused officers orders to surrender and K9 Diesel was released.

Coleman fought with K9 Diesel for a short period before surrendering, police said.
Coleman was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor wounds from fighting with K9 Diesel and minor wounds he obtained from running through thickets.
He was released from the hospital after treatment and transported to Monroe Police Department for booking.
Coleman was charged with third-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary to a motor vehicle, third-degree criminal trespassing and interfering with a police officer. He was given a $5,000 bond and a court date of July 16.
The Monroe Police Detective Bureau is investigating Coleman for possible links to other burglaries to vehicles experienced in Monroe and area towns.
