Maggot-Infested Fawn Dies In Monroe
The fawn succumbed to flystrike, where flies lay eggs directly on an animal.

MONROE, CT — A fly-covered fawn died in Monroe Monday after succumbing to flystrike.
A resident reported seeing a fawn on his patio covered in flies, according to the Connecticut Post. Officers responded, but within an hour the fawn went into shock and died from the condition.
Flystrike can affect a number of animals especially those with dirty fur or rear ends or those who are ill.

Flystrike can occur in hours and toxic shock resulting in death can follow soon after. Flies lay eggs on the affected animals and the hatched maggots begin to eat the flesh.
