Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing from Monroe Day Care
Police say the man stole three payment checks from the facility in January.

A Bridgeport man was arrested for allegedly stealing checks from a day care facility in Monroe.
According to police, three payment checks dropped into a metal security box in the reception area of the daycare were reported stolen on Jan. 20.
A police investigation revealed that two checks, totaling $817 were deposited into a bank account in Bridgeport through an ATM. Using ATM photographs and bank records, Monroe Police Detectives said they were able to identify Carlos Ortiz, 25 and an accomplice as being the depositors of the checks.

Investigation further revealed that Ortiz was hired by a cleaning service and only worked one day at the day care facility where the checks were stolen, and then never returned.
Ortiz was arrested at Bridgeport Security Court on May 13, where he was in the custody of State Marshals.

He was charged with second-degree forgery, fifth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny. Ortiz was given a $1,500 bond and a court date of May 13.
