Man Stole Up To 8K From Monroe Wine Store: Police

A Hamden man was arrested after police say he allegedly stole up to $8,000 from his employer.

David Fitch, 47 turned himself in on an active arrest warrant on June 12.

Fitch was employed by a local home brewing and wine making supply store. According to police, the owners of the store were told by a customer that they had observed Fitch pocket cash from the cash register during a transaction.

The store owners installed a surveillance camera on the register and Fitch was observed placing cash in his pocket on seven occasions, police said.

During an interview with Monroe Police Detectives, Fitch admitted that he had been pocketing cash for about a year and estimated that he stole between $7,000 and $8,000 from his employer during this time, police said.

Fitch was charged with third-degree larceny.

He was given a $1,000 bond and a court date of June 19.
