Man Tried Grabbing Officer's Weapon During DUI Arrest in Monroe: Cops
The man reportedly crossed the center line and almost caused a head on crash.

A Sandy Hook man facing a DUI charge in Monroe tried grabbing an officer’s weapon as he was being placed in handcuffs, according to police.
An officer patrolling Route 25 on Jan. 15 around 8 p.m. by the Tavern Restaurant observed a northbound gray Honda CRV cross the center line and nearly cause a head on crash, police said.
The driver, identified as Dennis Shanchuk, 73, of Sandy Hook was confused and had the smell of alcohol on his breath, police said. He failed standardized field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.

According to police, as Shanchuk was being placed in handcuffs he attempted to pull away from the officer and tried grabbing his weapon.
He was charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive right and interfering with an officer. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
