Time to celebrate!
The Masuk High School Colorguard started its competition season with a 1st place win in the Scholastic A division of the Musical Arts Conference Winterguard competition, “Masuk Classic,” held at Masuk High School on Saturday, February 7. Masuk’s JV team placed 2nd in Guard Middle School division. Twenty-seven teams from around Connecticut attended.
Colorguard requires a great deal of practice to do it well. Team members work together in a synchronized routine of dance with very specific patterns and movements while at the same time tossing and spinning rifles, sabres, and vibrantly colored flags. Winterguard has been termed by some as “the sport of the art” requiring a combination of athletic skills, creative interpretation of music, and theatrical performance. The teams are judged on excellence of equipment, movement, design, and general effect.
