Monroe, Area Firefighters Respond to 7-Acre Brush Fire

Local fire companies helped to extinguish a large brush fire in Sandy Hook Wednesday morning.

Sandy Hook, Hawleyville, Monroe, Southbury and other area fire companies responded to a large brush Wednesday morning, according to Dodgingtown Chief Joe Masso, whose company was on stand-by.

The fire burned about five to seven acres of land in Newtown behind a home on Sherman Street, according to NBC CT News. It took firefighters about two hours to extinguish the flames, according to a Sandy Hook volunteer firefighter.

No injuries were reported and no homes were damaged from the blaze.

It has not yet been determined what started the fire. Chief Bill Halstead could not be reached for comment.
