Monroe Board of Finance Chairman: 'There's Going to Be Pain Across The Board': Report

Town officials are attempting to close a $7.2 million hole in the town's budget.

MONROE, CT — Officials in Monroe, like many other communities across the state, are scrambling to prepare for impending budget cuts from the state, and all town departments will feel the pain of budget cutsthis year, reports the Monroe Courier.

During a meeting Tuesday, Board of Finance Chairman Mike Manjos said that there would be "pain across the board," in terms of the town budget, reports the Monroe Courier.

Officials are seeking to close a $7.2 million hole, exploring every inch of the general fund and what could potentially be bonded.

Officials are facing a tall task, as the report indicates that a 10 percent budget decrease would only result in a budget $6.5 million smaller than the one proposed by First Selectman Steve Vavrek. Manjos also said that the current school budget is "off the table.
