Monroe Dad Gets Probation After Accidentally Shooting His Son
The judge said he didn't believe the father would commit a criminal offense in the future.

Superior Court Judge Earl Richards said it was clearly a serious incident when Vincent Pizzolato, 44, of Monroe, accidentally shot his son in the face in March.
But Richards said the fact that the boy, 11, didn’t suffer permanent damage and his belief that Pizzolato wouldn’t offend in the future led him to hand out a special form of probation in the case, the Connecticut Post reports.
Pizzolato will avoid jail time and instead receive two years of probation, and if he avoids any criminal charges during that period the incident will be dismissed from his record.

Pizzolato was originally charged with second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Pizzolato’s family including his son supported the issuance of probation in this case.

In the March 8 incident, Pizzolato went into the basement to secure two pistols into a safe and after checking one of the pistols believing it to be empty, he pulled the trigger and the pistol fired one round, according to police.
The round traveled through a wall into a finished family room and struck his 10-year-old son in the face.
The Ruger 9mm pistol was examined by a Bridgeport Police Department Firearms Examiner and found to be working as designed.
