Monroe Historical Society Seeks Old Photos
The Monroe Historical Society is assembling a book called Monroe Through Time and is looking for old photographs.

Press release from the Monroe Historical Society:
The Monroe Historical Society is assembling a book called Monroe Through Time and is looking for old photographs of buildings and the landscape to supplement its collection. Two previous books depicted the Monroe of yesteryear. The format now contrasts what Monroe looked like in years gone by with how those same sites appear today. Publication is scheduled for mid- 2015. The society is interested in all old photos and images—the older the better-- but specifically:
- The Harmony Grange #92 (erected in 1933) at the intersection of Routes 110 and 111.
- The Castle at Marian Heights (built in 1936) on Route 111 (early exteriors).
- The old Monroe Library building (as it existed before it was located in the Town Hall Annex and the EWML was built).
- The old racetrack and airfield on Moose Hill Road where the St. John’s Cemetery is located now.
- The Masonic Hall/Town House that predated the current building (erected in 1904) off the Town Green.
- The Whitney equestrian center that stood on the current site of the Whitney Farms Golf Course on Route 110.
- The Burr Little League Ballfield (circa 1950s) on Cutlers Farm Road.
- The terrain that predated the creation of Great Hollow Lake in Wolfe Park in 1972.
- Leavenworth Hall at the intersection of Routes 59 and 25.
