19 Counts In Sexual Assault Case Against Monroe Man, 86: Police
Monroe police said the suspect is accused of sexually assaulting a child over a five-year period.

MONROE, CT — An 86-year-old Monroe man was arrested by Monroe police on a warrant Tuesday charging him with 19 counts of sexual assault in connection with what authorities said was years of sexual abuse of a child.
Fernando Cachina was charged with the following:
- 3 counts of risk of injury to a child
- 6 counts of illegal sexual contact with a minor under 13 year old
- 5 counts of first-degree sexual assault
- 2 counts of third-degree sexual assault
- Fourth-degree sexual assault
- 3 counts of second-degree unlawful restraint
Monroe police detectives began investigating Cachina in April, after authorities received a report of child sexual abuse that had taken place in town.

"During the investigation, detectives determined the sexual abuse of the minor by Cachina had been taking place over a period of five years at his home in Monroe," police said.
Additional details of the investigation were not disclosed.

Cachina was released after posting bond on bail of $175,000, and he is scheduled to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Nov. 24.
