Police Provide Update on Monroe Storm Damage

Many are without power in Monroe due to the extensive storm.

Update 7:30 p.m.: The Monroe Police Department provided an update on the extensive damage due to the storm.

Police said that at this time, all emergency services along with DPW crews are actively working on making the Town of Monroe safe for travel. The police and fire departments have responded to over 20 incidents of downed trees and power lines, along with medical emergencies and routine police calls for service.

At 6:50pm Eversource crews entered Monroe to restore electrical service to the community. The Police Department, Monroe Emergency Management, DPW Director along with First Selectman Vavrek are actively working with utilities in prioritizing restoration efforts, police said.

At this time there are still roughly a dozen roads closed due to downed power lines.

A downed power line on Moose Hill Road which has been energized and burning a hole through the roadway is Eversource’s first priority.

Residents are urged to stay away from downed power lines and treat them as if they were energized.

Update 6:21 p.m.: There are currently 2810 outages in Monroe.

Update 6:05 p.m.: There are currently 2340 outages in Monroe.

Update 5:50 p.m.: There are currently 2337 outages in Monroe, according to Eversource.

Update 5:15 p.m.: Eversource is reporting that there are currently 3,862 power outages in Monroe.

The outages are a result of the severe thunderstorms that hit the area on Tuesday.

According to NBC Connecticut, there are several trees down in Monroe and many roads are closed as a result.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the area until 9 p.m.
