Parks and Recreation Program - Nature's Sweet Secret

It’s Maple Sugarin’ time!  On Tuesday, February 18, from 11:00-1:00 come to the Edith Wheeler Library and learn about the history and science behind this ancient craft.  Native American legends about the discovery of maple sugar will be told and exhibits, artifacts and hands-on activities will illustrate the changing role of technology in maple syrup production.  Participants will also visit a tapped maple tree and sample the “sweet water” that it yields.  Ranger Vin Lavorgna of the Brooksvale Park in Hamden will be the presenter.  Brooksvale Park’s Sugar Shack is a member of the Maple Sugar Producers of Connecticut and produces gallons of its own brand of maple syrup each year.

Program is geared for families and children grades K-4.  Extended learning materials provided along with a sweet maple treat!  Although there is no cost to this program, please register on-line at our website www.monroerec.org as space is limited.
