Plan to Make Stepney Village Monroe's Town Center Picking up Steam
The proposal is not an official town project yet, but has received support around town.

A proposal to make Stepney Village Monroe’s designated town center is gaining steam and the concept was presented by resident Lee Hossler at Town Hall Tuesday night, according to the Monroe Courier.
The Courier reports that First Selectman Steve Vavrek supports the concept and is in favor of creating a focal point in town. According to Hessler’s proposal, a 0.7-mile section on Main Street, which is home to about 70 businesses, would be developed as a destination point.
With the idea having plenty of local support, the biggest obstacle is determining the funding of the project and Hossler said the town has the opportunity to make use of federal and state grants that were specifically created to implement such projects, according to the Courier.

The next step, Hossler said, is assembling a Stepney Village committee that would create a financial plan, as well as to designate an economic development director whose role would be to coordinate all project efforts, according to the Courier.
