Police Investigate Accident with an Extrication, Water Rescue

A 27-year-old woman who suffered serious injuries in a two-car-accident on Main Street that sent her vehicle off the road and an SUV into icy water near Knollwood Drive late Friday night, was released from St. Vincent's Medical Center after being treated for serious injuries, according to a hospital spokeswoman. The hospital could not say what day she went home due to HIPAA privacy laws.

The patient's mother later wrote an email to Patch saying her daughter now staying at another hospital.

Police, firefighters and EMS volunteers rescued the driver of the SUV, a 41-year-old woman, from the water, and police said her injuries were "apparently minor".

Firefighters had to extricate the younger woman from her purple Hyundai. Both women were transported to St. Vincent's for treatment.

It was after 11 p.m. when the GMC Acadia SUV headed north on Main Street and the Hyundai headed opposite direction. Police said one of the vehicles went into the other lane, then both drivers turned sharply to avoid a head-on collision. The Hyundai went off the road and the SUV went into the water.

Police are still investigating the accident to determine who was at fault.
