Storm Knocked Out Power In Monroe Thursday: UPDATE

The remnants of Hurricane Ida crashed through Connecticut on Wednesday and early Thursday, leaving roads closed and power outages.

MONROE, CT — Nearly 400 Monroe residents and businesses were without power Thursday morning, following Wednesday's heavy rainstorm that knocked down trees and wires, and flooded some areas of town.

As of 11:30 a.m., just 4 percent of Eversource's customers in Monroe, or 291, were without power, according to the utility company. The figure was down from nearly 1,000 earlier on Thursday.

By 2 p.m., the number of those without power had fallen to less than 85, according to Eversource.

First Selectman Ken Kellogg said in a message to residents Thursday morning that portions of the following roads temporarily were closed due to flooding, downed trees, and downed wires:

  • Pepper Street - Wires in roadway
  • Old Zoar Road - Wires in roadway
  • Route 110/Osborn Lane - Tree leaning on wires, blocking entire roadway
  • Turkey Roost Road - Roadway flooded, pavement damaged

Also by 2 p.m., all the roads were reopened to traffic.

"Eversource has confirmed that crews are evaluating outages and restoration crews are assigned and responding to Monroe," Kellogg said.
