School Board Turns Chalk Hill Over to the Town

The building will not be used for education purposes. Now the town has to decide what to do with it

Board of Education members voted unanimously Monday not to use Chalk Hill School for education purposes next fall and to turn over control of the building on Fan Hill Road to the town.

Thomas Taylor, a board member, asked if there is a steering committee to decide how the building will be used.

Board of Education Chairman Darrell Trump said there will be a meeting on June 20, giving residents the opportunity to discuss potential uses for Chalk Hill with Planning & Zoning commissioners and other town officials.

The second level of Chalk Hill School is being used by sixth grade students this year and the first floor is taken up by the Parks & Recreation Department.

Next year, the Parks & Recreation Department will move back to Monroe Town Hall and the sixth grade will be absorbed into Jockey Hollow Middle School and the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Academy at Masuk High School.
