Sen. Kelly Joins Local Realtors at the Capitol

Senator Kevin Kelly (R-21), Ranking Member of the General Assembly’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee, met with the Greater Bridgeport Board of REALTORS® at the State Capitol last week. The local realtor organizations attended the 30thAnnual REALTORS® at the Capitol event on April 3 to discuss legislation that affects the state’s real estate market.

“I was very happy to see so many realtors from my district involved in the legislative process,” said Senator Kelly. “There are many bills on the table this year that have an impact on the real estate market. Hearing questions and concerns about everything from the state’s tax structure to protecting homeowners in flood zones help the legislature better understand our community’s priorities and needs.”

Senator Kelly spoke specifically about his support for those burdened by the impact of flood map changes and flood insurance premium rate increases.

“Recent severe weather in Connecticut has harmed many people who live near large bodies of water. Legislation to study, protect and aid homeowners who have been impacted by flooding or other storm damage is clearly a priority that must be addressed this year,” said Senator Kelly.

Other topics of discussion included foreclosure by market sale, changes to the tax structure, smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector affidavits, and energy mandates.
