Two Women Face DUI After Two Separate Motor Vehicle Crashes in Monroe
The two incidents were reported within 45 minutes of each other and involved the use of cell phones.

Monroe police arrested two women involved in two separate motor vehicle accidents accused of driving under the influence on May 9.
According to police, in the first incident that occurred in the 400 block of Moose Hill Road around 10:38 p.m., Amy Lemar, 24, of Woodbury was traveling north in a Subaru Legacy when she answered a phone call.
Lemar veered off the right shoulder striking a telephone pole and snapping it in half, police said.

According to police, Officers speaking with Lemar detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and she admitted to drinking beer prior to the crash. Lemar failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, operation of a motor vehicle while using a handheld device.
Lemar was given a $500 bond and a court date of May 19.

In the second incident reported in the 100 block of Flint Ridge Road around 11:17 p.m., Elize Spitzer, 24, was traveling north in a Hyundai Elantra when she struck a legally parked car on the shoulder of the road, police said.
Spitzer later told police she became distracted while texting on her phone.
According to police, officers speaking with Sptizer detected a strong odor an alcoholic beverage on her breath and she admitted to drinking at a park in Shelton prior to the crash. Spitzer failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the established lane and operating a motor vehicle with a handheld device.
Spitzer was given a $500 bond and a court date of May 19.
