Voter Turnout is Low for Monroe's Annual Budget Referendum: Officials

Monroe Town officials are encouraging Monroe residents to vote Tuesday. Polls are open until 8 pm.

MONROE, CT-- Monroe residents are encouraged to get out and vote on Tuesday, April 5 on the new proposed budget for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. The proposed increase in spending for Monroe is 1.71 percent for 2016-2017 and tax revenue of 1.57 percent.

The Town of Monroe posted that as of 12 p.m., only 638 residents have voted so far. Last year at the same time, 848 people had voted, 210 people less than Tuesday.

Polling places are open until 8 p.m. Tuesday night:

  • District 1: Fawn Hollow Elementary School, 345 Fan Hill Road
  • District 2: Stepney Elementary School, 180 Old Newtown Road
  • District 3: Monroe Elementary School, 375 Monroe Turnpike
  • District 4: Masuk High School, 1014 Monroe Turnpike
