Details Emerge Why Montville Administrator Put On Leave: Report

Interim Montville HS Assistant Principal Phil Orbe was placed on administrative leave this week following an exchange with a student.

MONTVILLE, CT — Montville High School interim Assistant Principal Phil Orbe says the reason he was placed on administrative leave, following what he calls an "innocent exchange" with a student, was over a backpack in a hallway, reports The Day.

Backpacks are not allowed in the hallways, Orbe says, and he confronted the student about it in what he described to the publication as a joking manner. At one point he says he asked the student if he would need to throw him down the hallway to get the point across, and both he and student smiled about it.

Orbe stresses that the exchange was not malicious or threatening in any manner. While he accepts his administrative leave and is awaiting an outcome from the district, he does not believe the exchange warranted the preliminary decision to place him on leave.
