UPDATE: Corrigan-Radgowski Still in Lockdown; White Powdery Substance Secured
Corrections spokesman says substance, while not identified led to emergency protocol, investigation and lockdown.

Update at 2:15 p.m.
According to Department of Corrections spokesman Brian Garnett, shortly after 8 a.m. during a routine check of incoming mail in the Rodgowski building, -- a routine practice to check possible contraband – officers discovered an envelope containing a white powdery substance.
The substance was secured, the officers immediately segregated and the state police were notified. Garnett said the substance was “secured and removed to be analyzed.” He said there were no injuries and no issues.”

He also said that the community would not otherwise be aware of the lockdown save for staff located at the entrance to the facility to turn away visitor. He said inmate movements are “severely restricted at this time.” But that he expects the facility to return to normal operations later today.

According to Montville Mayor Ronald McDaniel, a "lockdown" at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center as issued this morning following the discovery a of a "white powdery substance" in the mailroom.” McDaniel said the facility notified the town as part of its regular procedure and the community was safe throughout the lockdown and investigation.
"We're all clear. Don't know what it was but it was not dangerous," McDaniel said.
