Public Safety Building to 'Go Live' Mid-January

Town Planner Marcia Vlaun briefed the Town Council on the status of the Public Safety Building Wednesday night.

The ahead of schedule, on budget with less than $20,000 worth of change orders.

It is anticipated that the building will “go live” in mid-January; a “critical date,” Vlaun said in that 911 calls will need to be transferred and files moved; “All that needs to be coordinated,” she said.

A date for an public grand opening will likely be decided Thursday night.

Next week the boiler will be started up, janitorial supplies will be delivered as will furniture. “Transition meetings on how the building will go live,” Vlaun said, will begin in December as will phone and security systems trainings. 

Meanwhile, according to Town Councilor Gary Murphy, "there are a lot of towns that want to come to Montville for regional (dispatch). It even could be too many. But it could work out very well in our favor."

Mayor Ronald McDaniel said a meeting with the towns of Colchester and Salem related to regional dispatch was canceled due to Hurricane Sandy. Plans are under way to reschedule that meeting, he said.
