Salvatore Says Fund-Raising Calls Shine Badly on Montville Department

Police have been getting 10-15 inquiries a week about the fund-raising calls

Montville Police Officer Robin Salvatore, the president of Police Local 2054, says that the Montville Police Department has been getting 10 to 15 inquiries a week lately about fund-raising calls for Police Explorers 045 Monvtville.

In a letter to the editor, Salvatore says that the calls have been coming from a cell phone number.

There is no such group, she says. No Explorers.  Not in Montville. There are Explorers in East Lyme, and she suspects that the fundraising calls are coming from the person raising funds for that group.

The Montville Police Department's most recent fund-raiser was in 2006, Salvatore says. The department might do another fund-raise in the coming year, and so these illicit calls are particularly irksome.

“Ours, all of (the money) goes back to the community,” she says.

In addition, some of the people who have called the station, and called Salvatore at home, have said the fund-raising callers have been rude.

“This shines badly on us,” Salvatore said Thursday.
