Signs of the Times in Montville

The signs are everywhere. Mostly red, white, blue, -- although I’ve seen some in bright green and yellow – plastic and cardboard, small, medium and large, some very large; on main roads and side streets, on public land and private, in driveways.

According to Town Clerk Lisa Terry, the Town of Montville doesn’t have an ordinance that regulates how long after an election or political event the signs must be removed. And there is no town charter language on the matter and no zoning regulation either.

And after a Connecticut Civil Liberties Union letter warning mayors and first selectman across the state that regulations on political or campaign signs displayed in public it’s not surprising that there is not regulation or law on the books.

About 30 minutes after the polls closed Tuesday night, Montville Patch chatted with Republican candidate Leon Moore as he removed signs, not necessarily for aesthetic reasons but because those signs, love them or hate them, don’t come cheap
