Veterans Day in Montville Celebrated With Flags, Song, Prayer and Speeches [VIDEO]

A gorgeous blue sky and balmy day was the backdrop for a moving Veterans Day ceremony in Montville. A collaboration of the town, the Montville VFW 10060 and the Montville American Legion Post 112, the ceremony featured a row of local and state officials and dignitaries but also, scores of veterans and their families, many in full uniform and the American Legion Riders Post 112 and the New London Motorcycle Club.

“Veterans Day is an important occasion each year because it gives all of us the opportunity to thank those who have served,” Montville Mayor Ronald McDaniel said. “And to remind ourselves of the tremendous sacrifices veterans have made to maintain the strength, the freedom and the independence of our great nation.” 

Montville VFW Commander Jesse J. LaTorre and American Legion Commander Ronald Nicholson raised the flag to full staff, led the gathered in the Pledge of Allegiance and near the end of the ceremony, laid wreaths at the war monuments. Prayers and an invocation were offered by Irvin Reid and Cynthia Cote sang the National Anthem before McDaniel shared his remarks.
