Veterans were honored Thursday at the Charles E. Murphy Elementary School with a breakfast, patriotic songs, speeches and the admiration of friends and family members.
Zackarie Navarete, 10, is a fifth-grader at the school, and was helping set up and serve the breakfast. The school was honoring veterans, he said, because of "all their hard work and what they did for the country."
Leila Awad, also a fifth-grader, gave a short speech about why she is proud to be an American.
