In a news release, police said the products were seized from the 92 Convenience smoke shop on Church Street as a result of a joint investigation involving Naugatuck police and the state departments of consumer protection, labor, revenue services and mental health and addiction services.

The investigation, which included controlled purchases, began after officers received reports from concerned community youth advocates of the store selling cannabis and THC products to school-age children in Naugatuck, according to police.

Officers later executed a search and seizure warrant and seized 13 pounds of marijuana, THC vapes, THC edibles and cash from the store, police said.

"While cannabis sales have been legalized from regulated and authorized distribution centers, this store does not qualify to sell to the public," police said in a news release. "The sales from this store circumvent the tax laws and regulatory processes that are in place to ensure that quality controls are met and children cannot purchase cannabis or cannabis-derived products that contain THC."

"We recognize and commend the close collaboration with our state and local partners in this case, as well as Naugatuck youth advocates who work tirelessly for a drug free environment for our children," police said.
