2 Juveniles Accused Of Brandishing Fake Firearms In Naugatuck: Police

Two 13-year-old boys accused of brandishing fake firearms in downtown Naugatuck were arrested over the weekend, according to police.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” Two juveniles accused of brandishing fake firearms in downtown Naugatuck were arrested Saturday, according to police.

In a news release posted to Facebook, police said officers received a report of a suspicious man outside an Ion Bank on Cherry Street around 3:45 p.m.

Through their investigation, officers discovered two 13-year-old boys had brandished a firearm at another group of juveniles during an argument that broke out during a basketball game near Salem Elementary School, according to police.

The group of juveniles then dispersed through the downtown area as officers were called, police said.

Officers soon identified and located the two juveniles and recovered three facsimile firearms that resembled real firearms, according to police.

Both juveniles were arrested and charged with sale, carrying and brandishing a facsimile firearm. Additionally, one of the juveniles was charged with first-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace.

"The Naugatuck police remind the public of the danger these facsimile firearms pose to the community," police said in a news release, "as no amount of training can differentiate between the two when used in a crime."
