Three people were taken to area hospital after a two vehicle accident occurred on Route 8 on the Naugatuck/Waterbury line, State Police said.

Vehicle 1, driven by Larry L. Shunk, 55, of Southington, was traveling northbound on Route 8 in the right lane prior to Exit 30 around 4 a.m. Friday.

Dozier’s vehicle veered into the right shoulder and struck the metal guide wire and an embankment in the right shoulder, State Police said.

This caused Dozier’s vehicle to roll over onto its side back onto the travel portion of the roadway, and Shunk’s vehicle then hit the trailer portion of vehicle 2 while it was in the right travel lane, which caused Shunk’s vehicle to also roll over and come to rest on its side, State Police said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
