3 Teens Charged After Setting Dump Truck On Fire: Naugatuck Police

Three 16-year-old boys were charged with arson after police said they set fire to a Naugatuck Public Works dump truck.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” Three teens are facing charges after Naugatuck authorities said they set a city dump truck on fire Friday afternoon.

According to a release from the Naugatuck Police Department, three 16-year-old boys were charged with third-degree arson, criminal mischief and trespassing after authorities said they set fire to a Naugatuck Department of Public Works dump truck parked near a city storage area at 211 Spring St.

Police were dispatched to the location after receiving reports of heavy smoke around 1:20 p.m., authorities said. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.

Investigators later located four juveniles near the scene of the fire. When authorities tried to question them, police said they fled on foot but were apprehended following a brief foot chase.

Police did not release the names of the suspects. It's unclear if they will be charged as adults.
