WATERBURY, CT — Firefighters pulled an elderly woman out of a burning residence Saturday night, but she died due to her injuries.
Fire Capt. Edward Partridge said firefighters were summoned to the fire at the single-family home at 136 Pinecrest Dr. on Saturday around 10:11 p.m.
A caller reported a fire on the upper level of the home in a closet, and said a grandmother was still inside the residence. An additional call alerted rescuers that the grandmother was immobile, according to Partridge.
First responders saw smoke from the two-story, wood frame home. Firefighters entered and found the grandmother, brought her out to the front of the house and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her, Partridge said.
Emergency medical service personnel rushed the woman to Waterbury Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries, according to Partridge. Officials had not released the victim’s name as of Monday.
One firefighter was also taken to Waterbury Hospital for observation.
The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
