Moped Rider Dies In Hit-And-Run In Waterbury: Police

The collision happened early Saturday near Meriden and Southmayd roads.

WATERBURY, CT — A 27-year-old Waterbury man was killed early Saturday in a hit-and-run crash involving a moped, police said.

Officers responded around 2 a.m. to the intersection of Meriden Road and Southmayd roads, where they found a man, who was later identified as Luis Santana, suffering from severe injuries near a downed moped, according to NBC Connecticut. Santana was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police have not yet released any details regarding the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

The fatal Saturday crash came just days after another serious collision involving a dirt bike in Waterbury. The dirt bike collided with an SUV at about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and left an 18-year-old with serious, life-threatening injuries, police said.
