Accepting Nature’s Course – Opening reception at Madison Art Cinemas on June 9, 2011 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Ajay Brainard is an emerging artist with a distinctive style of artwork. His work is an exploration into the complex cycle of life to death and the balance of hope and despair that exists in nature. He has an attachment to objects from nature that most would overlook. The items that he accumulates serve as a reminder to him, and possibly the spectator of their own mortality. Ajay’s attraction to these objects goes beyond just the visual aspect; one can sense the emotional connection that he has to them as well. Physical textures also play a major role in his art work, which gives his realistic renderings a raw organic feel. Many of the unique surfaces that he chooses to paint on possess a history and are works of art in their own right. They include animal hide, old rusty sheets of metal, and snake skin. In his way, he is attempting to pay homage to their existence. “It is important for me to accept the loss and use it to make something beautiful.”

His artwork questions the definition of beauty and by doing so he captures these objects in their various stages of their life and inevitably their demise. He attempts to capture the beauty that he sees exists in all their stages of life, death and even decay. “All living and decaying things are in a constant state of change and while the process of decay may be unsightly, it is also a very beautiful and essential component in the cycle of new life.” While there is sadness in his work, there is also a great sense of beauty, respect and peace in it as well.
Ajay resides in Naugatuck, CT with his wife where he has recently completed his bachelor degree in Fine Art. He is constantly on the look out for discarded items for his next masterpiece.
