The Andrew Avenue PTO has extended Penny Wars until Friday. The buckets will also be out during the dance, so if any parents want to added to it they can.
Naugatuck, CT - Andrew Avenue Elementary School PTO sponsored their annual fundraiser "Penny Wars." All of the Andrew Avenue classrooms raised money last week with this fun and friendly competition.
This is how the concept was described in the weekly newsletter emailed by school secretary Donna Foster.
Classes compete to see who can fill their jar with the most pennies. The Class with the most pennies wins. HOWEVER……The key goal (and the real fundraiser) is to sabotage the jars of your rivals. This is done by adding coins other than pennies to their jars which score negatively. Therefore 10 pennies in one team's jar can be wiped out by the addition of a coin worth 10 by another team.
PTO President Marilyn O'Donnell called Penny Wars the "kids' favorite fundraiser," and invited parents to participate by adding pennies to the class jars during the Parent Conferences held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. "There are 2 ways to win," she posted, "the class that raises the most overall money and the class who raises the most pennies....Classes that win get to choose a movie to watch for just them!"
