Indie-rock musician Tim Kasher got the ball rolling by reaching out to actor John Ratzenberger on the Cameo video shoutout service. Kasher asked America’s favorite postal worker to “make a plea to the American people to help save the Post Office” and said that he was surprised to see Ratzenberger respond.

Ratzenberger, who played know-it-all postal worker Cliff Clavin on the beloved 1980s sitcom CHEERS, came up with a proposal to support the United States Postal Service. The actor and entrepreneur, who grew up in Bridgeport CT and attended Sacred Heart University, is known as the only actor to voice a character in every Pixar film and as a champion of skilled labor in America.

“How many times is Aunt Tilly gonna be wearing that hat?” Ratzenberger joked about less-than-wisely chosen holiday presents. “Once. Twice. But how many times will she be using those stamps?”

Ratzenberger’s Christmas shopping suggestion comes amid “chaos and confusion” surrounding the United States Postal Service as the nation approaches the presidential election in November. The USPS has faced many obstacles due to the pandemic, among them staff shortages and a drastic drop in letter volume, and now a pivot toward mail-in voting.
