Coronavirus Naugatuck: Mayor Hess Updates Residents

Mayor Pete Hess shared several updates with residents concerning the new coronavirus and its impacts on the Borough.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Mayor Pete Hess said the borough doesn't have a confirmed case of the coronavirus in Naugatuck as of Friday, March 20. But he said it doesn't mean that the virus isn't here.

He said town leaders "know of people who don't feel well" and that more folks will get tested. He said he'll continue to act under the assumption that the virus is here. He urged residents to "be smart, be safe."

Naugatuck's Unified Command Team is in operation and all essential services are being provided. Police have visited grocery stores daily, Hess said.

He said there is a real supply of everything residents need at local stores minus toilet paper, chicken and sanitary reasons. He said some people are hoarding items. He said folks need to be calm and buy just what they need so everyone has a chance.

Pharmacies are doing a great job, Hess said. "We encourage you to support all of our local restaurants," Hess added.

He said distance learning for students begins Monday, March 23. He urged parents to visit the schools website here. The breakfast and lunch programs are still in place.
