Dog Found In Deplorable Condition On Route 8: Naugatuck Animal Control

Naugatuck Animal Control said a French bulldog mix was found "in deplorable condition" on the side of the road near exit 26 of Route 8.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A French bulldog mix is recovering after being found "in deplorable condition" on the side of the road earlier this month, according to Naugatuck Animal Control.

In a post Wednesday, Naugatuck Animal Control said on Facebook the black male dog was spotted by Beacon Falls Department of Transportation workers on Nov. 9 near exit 26 of Route 8.

The dog, who has since been named "Creed," was wearing a black collar and found to be in deplorable condition, according to animal control.

After being examined by a vet, Creed was found to have a severe skin and yeast infection, ear infections, anemia and a body score of 0/1 out of 5, according to animal control.

"This little guy immediately became one of our favorites...who amazed us everyday, as he remained the happiest and silliest boy with the will to live," the post reads.

After determining he needed care beyond the capabilities of animal control, Creed was brought to Westley's Wish K9 Rescue, where he is currently being cared for.

A detailed post on the Westley's Facebook page, which includes photos, noted Creed is likely 3-5 years old and was 25 pounds when he arrived at animal control. In the past week, he has gained four pounds, which indicates he is headed in the right direction.

"He has a terrible skin and ear infection," the post reads, "his ears are so swollen, his skin so sensitive that sometimes it bleeds a little…while he looks bad in [pictures], it is so much worse seeing in person and feeling every single one of his bones when you try to pet him."

An anonymous donor recently donated $1,500 for Creed's vet services. He will also need to see a cardiologist once he feels a little better, according to Westley's.

"The smell of his flesh is indescribable," the post reads. "I feel like every time I touch him I'm causing him terrible pain, but he wants nothing more than to be touched and loved. He wants so badly to snuggle against you and lay in your lap. There is absolutely not a dog in the world that deserves to live like this."
